Foster’s Boozy Recipe Feature: Adonis
In Greek mythology, Adonis was the mortal lover of the goddess Aphrodite and Persephone, who was famous for having achieved immortality.
The cocktail was created in the mid-1800s in celebration of the very popular Broadway musical by the same name. It’s sophisticated, easy to make, and a lower ABV, making it a perfect sipper for the new year.
Ingredients
1 1/2 ounces amontillado sherry, preferably Lustau Los Arcos
1 1/2 ounces sweet vermouth, preferably Cocchi di Torino
3 dashes orange bitters, preferably Regans’
Garnish: orange peel
Steps
Combine all ingredients in a mixing glass with ice.
Stir until chilled.
Strain into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora.
Garnish with an expressed orange peel.
Ingredients for Adonis are easy to find, even in most grocery stores, and won’t rob your bank account.
