#LoveLocal: Creative Colloquy
We are talking with Jackie Casella about her project, @creativecolloquy. (Jackie is also an amazing member of the Foster’s Creative Team!)
Jackie founded CC in 2014. It's a Tacoma literary nonprofit that supports and highlights writers in the South Sound.
Here's what Jackie had to say:
CC has always been a community endeavor, it first started as a desire to connect with fellow word lovers and share stories, in 2014 there wasn't another local platform where someone who was writing short stories, essays, and novels could share their work.
There's a special value that comes from hearing others and your own work read out loud. We experience stories in a unique way.
Since covid we've been meeting virtually only, started new programming. In addition to our regular monthly open mics we began to host writer's workshops. In a time many are still cautious about gathering, the workshops have allowed for us to connect over our shared passions.
We also began the CC Book Bike last year, it gave us an opportunity to spread our love of literacy, connect with people in outdoor spaces gathering at parks in Tacoma. A little free library on wheels is a fun way to plant the seed for storytelling in everyday spaces - kids books are always the most popular which I'm hopeful will one day lead to us reconnecting young readers who have become young writers.
Do good & document it
